How long is the shelf life of a pomegranate

How to store pomegranate

1. Hanging

For the fruit used for hanging and storing, a section of the fruit stalk should be left when harvesting, tied into strings with string and hung in a cool house. 

Or wrap the fruit with newspaper or plastic film, hang it in a room with small temperature and temperature changes, and store it until around the Spring Festival. 

If you store pomegranates, you need to harvest them half a month in advance, and overripe pomegranates are prone to rot when they are hung.

2. Stack

Choose a ventilated and cool empty house, clean it up, sprinkle water properly to keep the room clean and moist, and then spread 5-6 cm thick straw on the ground, and cover it with a layer of pomegranate and a layer of pine needles. 

During the storage period, turn over and check every 15-20 days, remove rotten fruits, and replace pine needles. The storable varieties can be stored until April and May of the following year with this storage method. Before the fruit is piled up, the peel should be washed with clean water and pre-cooled.

3. Cylinders and tanks

Rinse the jars and other containers, and then spread a layer of wet sand with a water content of 5% on the bottom, 5-6 cm thick, and erect a straw handle or bamboo cylinder in the center to facilitate ventilation. 

Put pomegranates around the straw handles or bamboo cylinders until they are 5-6 cm away from the mouth of the tank, then cover them with wet sand, seal the mouth of the altar or cylinder with plastic film, and tie it tightly. 

Check once a month after storage, and remove any rotten fruits in time. This storage method can be stored until March and April of the following year.

4. Bag storage

Put the pre-cooled and fungicide-treated pomegranates into polyethylene plastic film bags, tie the mouth of the bags, and place them in a cool room. Stored in this way for 140 days, the pomegranate fruit is still fresh as before. 

The pomegranate fruit that has been treated with fungicides can also be packaged with a single fruit in a plastic bag. This kind of fruit is stored at 3-4°C for 100 days. The freshness of the fruit is good, and the tiger skin disease is light. The effect of single fruit packaging and storage in plastic bags is better than other methods.
