What is used to thicken fresh salsa?

Every one of the several distinct salsa recipes yields salsa with a varied consistency. When creating salsa, it might be challenging to achieve the ideal consistency, but don’t let a thin salsa get you down.

You may add cornflour to the salsa to thicken it if it appears too runny. Salsa cannot just have cornflour added to it. The cornstarch has to be slurried and cooked until it reaches the proper consistency.

Step 1

Each cup of salsa you wish to thicken should have 1 tbsp of cornflour added to it.

When the paste develops, add an equal quantity of water to the bowl and stir.

Step 2

Put a pot on the stovetop over medium heat and add the salsa.

The salsa should come to a boil.

Step 3

Add the cornflour paste to the salsa while mixing.

For 30 to 1 minute, heat the salsa while stirring continuously.

Step 4

To remove any taste of starch, bring the salsa to a boil before reducing the heat and simmering it once more.

After one minute, take the salsa from the heat.

Side note

You might need to add more cornflour to your salsa because it is acidic in order to get the desired thickness.

If you like, you may use arrowroot or tapioca starch in place of cornflour.

Warning

After adding the cornflour, do not cook the salsa for longer than one minute, since it will break down and become runny once again.

Never thicken salsa with cornflour or any substance before it is cooked.

Only add thickener when opening a salsa can.
